Dr. Claudine Lewis MBBS, DM
Dr. Lewis is an adult cardiologist, specializing in the heart health care of persons 18 years and older.
She received both her undergraduate and post-graduate degrees from the University of the West
Indies. She received her Bachelor of Sciences degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from the
University of the West Indies(UWI) in 1999 and Doctor of Medicine in Internal Medicine from the UWI
in 2005.
She later moved to Toronto where she completed a clinical fellowship in Adult Cardiology at the
University of Toronto. During her tenure at the University of Toronto, Dr. Lewis worked at the
Toronto General Hospital, Mt. Sinai, Toronto Western, Sunnybrook and St. Michael’s hospitals
gaining expertise in all aspects of Adult Cardiology including Heart Failure, Electrophysiology,
General Cardiology, Adult Congenital Heart disease, as well as Echocardiography and Cardiac
Catheterization.
After completion of robust training in adult cardiology in 2008, Dr. Lewis returned to
Jamaica, immediately taking up post as Consultant Cardiologist at Cornwall Regional Hospital. Dr.
Lewis dedicated her time to the establishment of a cardiac unit at the Cornwall Regional Hospital.
In May 2009 she founded the Heart Smart Centre to address the growing demand for Heart Health
Care in the private sector. She continued to work part-time in Heart Smart Centre while serving full-
time as Consultant Cardiologist at the Cornwall Regional Hospital, a role she relinquished in May
2018 after 10years. During this time she also served as an associate Lecturer at the University of
the West Indies between July 2008 and December 2017, training third to final year medical students,
interns and residents in the art and science of Internal Medicine and Cardiology.
Since June 2017, Dr. Lewis has devoted her time fully to Heart Smart Centre, training & employing
nurses and allied health professionals in the specialist field of cardiology. Dr. Lewis was born and
raised in Dumfries, St. James, and attended the Mt. Alvernia High School in Montego Bay, Montego
Bay Community college and later Hampton School. She has fulfilled her childhood dream of
returning to her beloved community to bring first-world quality heart health care that is personalized
and accessible to all.
She is a member of the American College of Cardiology, European Society of Cardiology and the
Caribbean Cardiac Society. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, tennis, learning piano and french
and wandering the globe.
